Becoming The Police Credit Union
For more than 65 years, we have steadily built a strong foundation to provide financial solutions to the unique membership we serve. We know that individuals in law enforcement and their families face unique challenges that come with the occupation, and our experience has provided us with a deeper understanding of their needs. Our new name aligns with our expanded charter, under which we welcome new law enforcement departments, related agencies and their family members throughout the state of California. We’re proud to extend the benefits of membership to these groups as we continue to build our financial strength as a trusted financial partner to our growing law enforcement family.

We are thrilled to unveil our new name! It marks an exciting time of growth and a new beginning for both our staff and our members. Soon, you will begin seeing the new logo and name on everything related to our credit union. Bear in mind that undertaking such an effort will take some time, therefore, the updated name will be rolled out in stages.

- Official announcement of the change to a new name and logo, through letter and emails to all members from the CEO and Chairman, Board of Directors.
- Creation of a microsite dedicated to informing members of the change and answering FAQs.
- Website refresh – an updated homepage that reflects our new name, with The Police Credit Union name replacing our prior name throughout the site.
- Interior signage will be in place at all branches, announcing the new name.
- New designs on debit and credit cards will begin to be used for new and reissued cards (Please note: there will not be a mass reissue of cards. The new design with the new name will appear on renewal and replacement cards only. A mass reissue is tentatively planned to take place around the end of 2019, beginning of 2020).
- Visa statement and card management portals (for making payments) will be updated.

The new name reflects everyone we serve – past, present and future. We were established in 1953 by a small group of San Francisco police officers who pooled their resources with the purpose of helping fellow officers' financial needs. The new name will allow us to continue our commitment and legacy through an expanded membership charter to welcome additional law enforcement agencies, first responders and their families in California.
The decision to change our name from the SF Police Credit Union to The Police Credit Union was a decision that was initiated with careful consideration and sound collection of data over a period of almost five years. As for who made the decision, the credit union's Board of Directors, elected by the membership, voted in 2018 to change the name after months of serious deliberation and review of feedback from our members and potential members within law enforcement throughout the state of California.
Specifically in 2017–2018, we conducted a series of focus groups with our existing members and potential members, within our field of membership of law enforcement active and retired as well as their family members. In Spring 2018, a survey was sent to the entire membership. The valuable feedback we received from these efforts as well as in-depth industry research supported our decision to change our name while encouraging us to remain true to our heritage and strong brand-thus, we retained the words "Police Credit Union" in our name. The new name was selected to reflect inclusiveness of all our law enforcement members, and potential members throughout the state of California.
The logo is designed to honor our past while continuing to emphasize our focus on law enforcement. The 7-point star is symbolic to law enforcement while the 5-point white star represents the state of California. This white star is positioned to reflect our heartfelt commitment to serving law enforcement throughout California.
No. Our credit union did not merge with another credit union. The new name simply reflects the inclusion of law enforcement throughout California in our field of membership.
No, our branch locations will remain the same.
We will be officially known as The Police Credit Union on July 15, 2019.
No. Your account/member number will remain the same.
Yes. Your current SFPCU cards will continue to work. Replacement cards will be issued with the new name and logo later in the year. If you happen to be reissued a debit or VISA card with the SFPCU logo, you may use this card with no problems.
No. There is no need to re-enroll in online or mobile banking. Your login information will remain the same. You will see our new name in online banking shortly.
No. Our ABA/Routing & Transit Number (321076496) will remain the same.
No. Our routing number and your account number are used to make electronic deposits and those are staying the same. Should you wish to set-up a new direct deposit or automatic payment, please use our new name but our routing and transit number is unchanged.
Yes. You can continue to use your current checks. When you order your next set of new checks, they will display The Police Credit Union name along with the new logo.
The only change will be the new name. Your existing loans will be displayed as The Police CU instead of SF Police Credit Union.
The statements will have the new name and logo; the format will remain the same.
Yes. Your accounts are still federally insured up to $250,000 by National Credit Union Association (NCUA).
Yes. There will be a few minor changes in effect on July 15th: · Our home page address will be www.thepolicecu.org · Email addresses will be firstname.lastname@example.org · Note: Our local and toll-free numbers and extensions will remain the same as they are now.
On July 15th, our website will have our new name and reflect the new brand identity. There will also be a new web address: www.thepolicecu.org. Please bookmark the new address when it goes live. However, if you use the existing web address, you'll automatically be redirected to the new site. We encourage you to change your bookmarks within your browser to point to the new website address as soon as you can.

Our branch locations and hours will remain the same. However, our ATMs will soon be rebranded with our new name. For Shared Branch and ATM locations, please visit our website.
We anticipate very little impact, if any, to members. You will not have to make any changes, other than modifying your bookmarks in your browser. It will be business as usual!
All of our employees are staying on our team and they are looking forward to continuing to provide you with excellent service. There will be no negative impact on them—instead, we expect that the anticipated growth from our name change will provide them with new opportunities for professional growth.
